Additional Activities


In addition to music, drama and sport, Queenswood School has extra-curricular activities in many areas including art, chess, computing, debating, embroidery, first aid and German.

The Computer Club is open to all pupils. It helps them to develop their skills in a fun, informal environment after school.

The older children prepare prototypes, marketing (including a "television" advert) and make a presentation to a panel of judges from the business world.

Debating Competition

We are keen for our children to participate in any opportunities that arise outside school. In the past these have included technology, art and poetry competitions, debates, music festivals, hand writing etc.

Competition brings a unique excitement and our pupils are encouraged to celebrate all achievement, however great or small.

School Visits

Where appropriate, educational visits are arranged to places of interest in the area. All outings are managed strictly in accordance with the School's Educational Visits and Trips Health and Safety Policy. "these bring learning to life for pupils through inspiring first-hand experiences" Ofsted report A suitable teacher-pupil ratio is observed with additional assistance of parent helpers.

Queenswood School uses a licensed public service mini-coach, and all drivers are PSV/PCV qualified. The vehicles are maintained to a very high standard and are fully fitted with lap and diagonal seat belts.

Twin School

We have made links with Killingholme School in Lincolnshire. "opportunities are provided for pupils to learn from other pupils in contrasting schools" Ofsted report Our pupils travelled there to enjoy a fantastic Science Day.

We will welcome Killingholme to Queenswood this year.

We are also partners with the Bridge School in Accra, Ghana (through the Star4Africa charity) and also have several European partner schools, through the Commenius project and the British Council.

Alma

The photo shows Alma the retired guide dog who attended a charity coffee morning with her owner, Thelma Wilson. The morning raised £200.

We always enjoy raising money for various charities; these are chosen by the School Council. Activites range from football penalty shoot-out competitions, a skipping festival, coffee mornings and raffles, shoebox collections at Christmas, Harvest food parcels, and many more!

Friendship Club

In September 2011 we began a Friendship Club with Siegen Manor Residential Home. "there are many opportunities for pupils to learn through involvement in the local community" Ofsted report We have shared many activities from making and presenting Valentine's Cards to the residents, sharing World Book Day in a colourful parade, singing Christmas Carols and many more fun activities at both Siegen Manor and school.

We also visit Owlett Hall in Drighlington to sing to the elderly there.
