Performing Arts
"The performing arts are a significant strength of the school's provision."
(Ofsted report 2011)
Queenswood School has a strong Performing Arts department that includes drama, spoken English
and music.
Children take part in assemblies and school productions with the opportunity to perform to wider external
audiences. The Juniors are entered for examinations each year with the English Speaking Board. This helps to
stimulate self-confidence and self-esteem - vital preparation for today's world.
There is an orchestra, a recorder group and the school choir; these give the children the experience of
performing both in school and also at outside venues.
The Spring Revue
Each Christmas the school arranges a carol service at a local church and the Infants stage a Nativity Play.
In the Spring term all the children in school take part in a musical revue.
The pupils in the Junior Department present a musical play in the summer term.

The Yorkshire Post Jazz Quartet
As part of the School's 70 Years Celebrations, the choir enjoyed performing in a concert at Morley Town Hall with the Yorkshire
Post Jazz Quartet.
The School's 70 Years Celebrations funded the purchase of a new stage, substantial lighting equipment and a state-of-the-art
sound system. This new equipment has encouraged even more dynamic performances from our children.
All these activities form an integral part of life at Queenswood School.
Parents are invited and encouraged to attend all these activities.
Individual piano, violin, woodwind and drum lessons are available (10 half hour lessons per term); children are entered for examinations
with the Associated Board of Music.
Sing Up!
The School has recently been awarded a prestigious Platinum Award in the "Sing-Up" awards, a four-year campaign
instigated by the Government to encourage and reward singing in schools.
Initially we were assessed for the Gold award without having to qualify for the other awards on the journey
so we are delighted with ourselves!
We celebrated at the concert in Leeds Cathedral on April 1st 2009 where we appeared in the Sing-Up concert as guest choir. Since then we received a nomination from Leeds Music Services and following an inspection by a Sing-Up representative we were awarded the highly prestigious Platinum award, one of only forty schools in the country to have been granted this status.
