Welcome to the Queenswood School website; I hope these pages give you a flavour of what a vibrant school this is. As Head Teacher I have a passionate enthusiasm to drive forward my vision for the school, which is that Queenswood School provides not only an outstanding education for the children in our care but that we also help equip them to take up a useful place in society as confident, caring, thoughtful, thinking people; these children are society's future.

I am determined that the school builds on its recent successes - our excellent Ofsted report, the Platinum award in the 'Sing-Up' programme, an Eco-School Silver Award and International School award.

Our investment in ICT has continued, providing custom-built computers with internet facilities and interactive whiteboards in every classroom. In sport, in addition to the weekly swimming lessons for all pupils from Reception to Year 6, our Sports Development plan has enabled us to host Home fixtures against other schools in many team games, "we have gone from strength to strength" which not only helps with physical development and team skills but also builds interpersonal skills; in this area we have gone from strength to strength.

I mentioned the Ofsted report, this followed our inspection in October 2011 and I am truly proud of the comments made by the inspector; I hope you take time to read the report in full, there is a link on this website. The highlights of the report are:

• Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, their behaviour and the provision for pupils' welfare, health and safety are outstanding.
• Due to an outstanding curriculum and good teaching, pupils make good progress. The school's data show pupils attaining highly across all the core subjects in each year group.
• The school operates as a particularly inclusive community; pupils say that no-one feels left out. Pupils are encouraged to develop strong friendships. Pupils say their school is like a family.
• The headteacher sets high expectations for everyone and leads by example. As a result, pupils are treated warmly, respectfully and fairly by all staff members and in return, pupils respond by being polite, courteous and very well-mannered.

I place great importance on the ethos of the school, our mission is:

"To offer our children a balanced education in a quiet, caring and secure environment in which they are able to reach their full potential both academically and as people."

Every child is an individual and developing the "whole person" is at the very centre of our values, I am delighted this has been recognised by Ofsted.
